Silica sol precision casting

Silica sol precision casting (commonly known in the industry as silicone precision casting or lost-wax precision casting) is the mainstream forming process for high-precision, complex heat-resistant alloy components, widely used in manufacturing parts for high-temperature applications such as industrial furnaces, petrochemical heat treatment, energy thermal power, aviation exhaust, and incineration equipment.  310S (06Cr25Ni20), as a high-chromium-nickel austenitic heat-resistant stainless steel, has become the preferred material for castings operating at temperatures above 1,000°C due to its excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance, creep resistance, and thermal fatigue resistance.  This article is divided into two core sections:  1. The first part systematically analyzes the chemical composition, metallographic structure, high- and low-temperature mechanical properties, and high-temperature corrosion resistance/oxidation resistance of 310S, while conducting a horizontal comparison with commonly used stainless steel grades in precision casting such as 309S, 316L, 253MA, 310H, 347, and 304L. A material selection evaluation system is established.  2. The second part fully dissects the entire production process of silicone precision casting, covering standardized operational specifications for mold design, silicone rubber mold fabrication, wax pattern forming, tree assembly, silica sol shell formation, steam wax removal, shell baking, vacuum/gravity melting and pouring, shell removal and cutting, heat treatment, and surface passivation. Key process parameters, online quality control standards, and typical defect causes and prevention measures are established by process step.  Additionally, three differentiated product categories are distinguished: miniature thin-wall precision components, medium-to-thick-wall general-purpose heat-resistant castings, and large furnace tube/valve thick-section castings, with targeted process adjustment recommendations, gating system design, shell layering, and differential pouring strategy proposals provided.  Production site operational data, physical-chemical testing standards, and industry defect databases are included,
